Native Replacement Trees

The following trees will be part of our free* replacement tree program, but will also be available from the Bartholomew County Soil and Water Tree Sale this fall.

Allegheny Serviceberry

The Allegheny Serviceberry is a small tree, that when mature, grows to 15-25 feet tall. It blooms with fragrant white flowers in mid-to-late spring, similar to the Bradford and Callery Pear, but minus the stinky smell.

The serviceberry is the perfect native replacement for a Bradford or Callery Pear tree, and grows to be a similar size.

American Hornbeam

The American Hornbeam is a member of the Birch family, and grows to be 20-30 feet tall when fully mature.

It's leaves turn a stunning shade of red-orange in the fall, too.

Pagoda Dogwood

Flowering Dogwood trees are a small tree that get between 15-30 feet tall when fully mature. They have a beautiful white bloom in the spring, and turn a vibrant red in the fall.

Redbud

The Eastern Redbud’s delicate blossoms and buds are one of the season’s most dramatic displays. But this tree’s beauty doesn’t end with its flowery show. Unique and irregular branching patterns combine with a trunk that commonly divides close to the ground to create a very handsome, spreading and often flat-topped crown. 20-30 feet tall when fully mature.
